Hi guys,
I lost my rat, Shirley on Friday. Her & her sister, Pepsi, had been together since birth. Now Pepsi is very lonely & keeps "honking". She is obviously distressed & this happens more in the evening than any other time of day. I know other rat owners get new rats & mix them with their older ones but I honestly don't think Pepsi would accept other rats to live with.
We give Pepsi as much love & hugs as we can but we wondered if there are other ways to help her bereavement? I do worry that once one had died it won't be soon until the other dies too.
Any advice gratefully received!

I've used very small stuffed dog toys with mixed success. It doesn't always work tho. I've seen them get buried and ignored, amusing, or ripped to shreds.
Sadly, nothing really compairs to the companionship of another rat even if you spend every hour with them. I dont know where you are but contact local humane societies, if they dont have or keep rats they may know someone who does who can help. Maybe foster and see if Pepsi will accept them. A local breeder may help too. Adult rats can also be alot more accepting of baby rats, and females are usually more tollerant of youngsters than males usually are.
I hope those help

i would definately say the best way is to adopt another rat. she may not accept the new addition right away but after a day or two they will be good as new and your rat should be a lot happier!
