You've probably already discovered the piece pasted below, which was posted on the News page of michael-mcdermott.com. I just wanted to add it here as well to encourage those who've heard the song Hit Me Back (be it the recorded version sent to Kickstarter contributors, or pehaps the live version recently played on Michael's East Coast mini-tour) to share your thoughts about it.

'For as light hearted as it seems - Hit Me Back is actually a fairly dark song. I was driving 2 hours everyday to see my mother in the hospital - was 6 weeks from when she broke her hip to when she died. I was destroyed by seeing her slip away. As she shuffled off this mortal coil.,,,, I shuffled some things off too. 2 hours in the car listening to the radio and hearing these pop songs gave me the idea......I can write me one of these .... So I did..... The lyrics to the chorus came first, driving down LaGrange road.'"

Also, it's been announced that this song will be the first track on the Triple A Sampler for October. Some of you may recall that "Everything I Got" once appeared on one of these samplers, which surely played a part in the very regular airplay it received on WXPN in Philadelphia -- where "Hit Me Back" may well become the "hit" of the fall season for Michael, and garner him many new fans.

Funny, I've heard the song a bunch of times (live shows and the recorded version) and never thought of it as just a pop song. Most pop songs these days have no emotional ooomph to them and this, like most of Michael's work, definitely does. I wouldn't degrade the song by calling it a pop song. It certainly is catchy though and, like he says, a fairly dark song. With lyrics like "I hit the bottle pretty hard last night" it's certainly not what I'd call an upbeat song, lol.

Fully agree, that this is not at all a typical Pop song. But a song that definetly a lot of people do/will like. I started to spread this song to some friends to start up the "marketing" campaign for the german tour that will hopefully start in spring next year. Still so much time to go
Looking forward to hear the full new record with growing numbers of fans in Germany and meanwhile Denmark and Poland too ! And finally to see Michael live..

While the lyrics may not always be uplifting, the music on "Hit Me Back" seems much more upbeat than prior albums. I wonder if Michael decided to go for more of a pop feel with this album? Scars, Prettiest Girl, she's gonna kill me, Hit Me Back all have pop hit potential. I really like the mix of music on this one.

You know, you are 100% correct. These days most people don't even listen to the lyrics. As long as "it's got a good beat and I can dance to it" it could become popular. Sad but true. I think there's definitely more of an upbeat feel to the music on this CD, just glad the lyrics haven't suffered in the least. I truly believe that this album is going to be his best ever artistically, hopefully it sells more than the previous records also.

I just watched the youtube video again (for the 100 time) of scars. This song is the full package. With this song and the new record company to promote it, I predict big things. This may be the last time we get to see Michael in small venues....

I don't think Michael will ever give up playing smaller venues. However, I would LOVE to see him in a stadium/arena setting at some point!
